What makes Ram different
Fobik keys, push-start fobs, and standard transponder keys all exist across the Ram lineup. The year and trim tell us what we're working with before we arrive.
Ram trucks from roughly 2009 to 2013 used a Fobik key — an integrated unit where the key blade and remote functions are in the same body. There's no separating them. When a Fobik is lost or broken, the whole thing needs to be replaced and programmed. These go through the Chrysler platform and require the right equipment.
Current Ram trucks use a push-start system where the fob communicates with the vehicle through TIPM. The programming sequence is different from older transponder setups, it's not a one-step process, and the year and trim determine which path applies.
Truck keys get used hard. The blade on a Ram 1500 or 2500 wears faster than a car key, more uses, more force, more exposure. A visually worn blade on a Ram often needs recutting before the worn profile starts damaging the ignition cylinder. It's cheaper to recut than to replace an ignition.
Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks can have more complex immobilizer configurations than light-duty vehicles. When every key is gone, the security module needs a full reset before new keys will fire the engine. It's doable on site, but it takes longer and the cost reflects the additional steps.

FAQ
A Fobik is an integrated key-and-remote in one unit used on older Ram trucks. Because the remote and key blade are combined, the whole unit needs to be replaced and programmed, you can't just replace the blade or the remote separately.
Yes. We carry the equipment to program Ram keys, including Fobik units and push-start fobs, at your location. Most Ram key jobs are completed the same visit.
A worn blade profile can turn the ignition without properly engaging it, which eventually damages the cylinder. If the key turns stiffly or requires multiple tries, the blade probably needs to be recut before the ignition becomes the problem.
Often yes. Heavy-duty Ram trucks can have more involved immobilizer configurations. The reset process takes longer than on a standard passenger vehicle, and the cost is higher accordingly.
